Mandalas for adults
Mandalas are how most adults come to colouring. The reason is simple: they are symmetrical, they grow from the centre outwards, and they can be abandoned halfway without looking unfinished.
Choosing the level of detail
It is the only choice that really matters. High detail means long sessions and a sense of immersion — but it demands good light, fine pens and patience. Medium detail lets you finish a page in an evening. Beginners usually prefer medium; people who have been colouring a while go looking for high, precisely because it takes longer.
Why symmetry slows you down
In a mandala there is always a small, immediate decision ahead — the next petal, the next ring — and never a big one. It is that rhythm, not the drawing itself, that makes time pass unnoticed. For the same reason you can stop anywhere: a completed layer looks intentional.
Materials
Coloured pencils give gradation and forgive mistakes. Felt-tips give saturated colour but bleed through thin paper. Gel pens work well in small areas. You do not need expensive materials to start — you need enough light, which is what most people colouring at the end of the day are short of.

Frequently asked questions
Do I need to know how to draw?
No. The drawing is already there; the only choice is colour.
How long does a page take?
Between twenty minutes and several hours, depending on the detail. Our densest mandalas usually take two or three sittings.
Does this help with anxiety?
Many people use it to slow down at the end of the day, and some describe the effect as calming. It is not a treatment and we do not present it as one.
You can try it right now, for free
The platform's colour studio is free: pick a drawing, colour it on screen — phone, tablet or computer — and download your artwork. You do not have to buy anything to start.
